There aren’t words for how much I have been looking forward to this post. Let’s just go ahead and get this out of the way- The Angry Italian is my favorite restaurant. I squeal like a kid the entire drive, hop up and down on the walk into the place, and jabber on and on about how much I love it to our waitress (who knows us by this point). I generally don’t let up until the food is placed in all it’s glory before me!
The Angry Italian previously occupied a tiny little space on a back street of Bristol with precious string lights lining the walkway. Chicago-style decor donned all the walls and the tight space gave a sense of wonderful coziness in a place you were taken in as you were. However, as of late February, this incredible spot moved to a bigger and more accommodating location on Bristol’s main strip. Intricate wooden booths line all the sides with a large, beautiful bar in the middle that provides a extensive beer selection. Huge windows give sight to the sweet outdoor area that overlooks the main drag. A huge Chicago skyline dons one entire wall. While it isn’t a small and cozy as before, the owners have somehow made it just as welcoming and homey, and honestly, easier to get into now that there are more tables! I look forward to many large gatherings as well as simple dates here.

Let’s talk food. The menu boasts items from pizza to Italian favorites, but I’m here to talk about pizza right now (some of my friends/family have gotten pasta dishes and they have been incredible). BUT we have to have some appetizers, right?! The garlic cheese bread, mozzarella stuffed risotto balls, and breadsticks have all graced my table and been overly-delicious. A neighboring table had meatballs that I couldn’t help ask about- they raved on and on! A must try for next time, I noted. However, my personal favorite app has to be the bruschetta. Salty, tangy, garlicky, and oily tomatoes and capers on top of hunks of crusty bread – chefs kiss. There is no better way to start the meal (my husband would argue the cheese bread – just get both).
The pizza. First, the Chicago style pizza, made by the Chicago-bred owner/chef, takes a solid 45-minutes and, please hear me, it is worth the wait. A firm crust holds massive amounts of stringy, gooey cheese, topped with what I know had to be a pain-stakingly homemade marinara and toppings. We enjoy the classic sausage and pepperonis, while adding bells peppers. Unbelievable. Out of this world. Showstopper. Crown jewel. Best ever.

The regular thin crust pizza is in and of itself a work of art. The crust is so flavorful and holds the same incredible sauce, generous cheese, and plethora of toppings you can chose from. Again- the bell peppers are perfect and unlike any other peppers at any other run-of-the-mill pizza place.

To sum it up, you have to go here. No option. The Angry Italian is a slam dunk, home run, touchdown, whatever you want to call it – it’s that. Everything, from the fantastic atmosphere and hospitality, to the food I would quite literally eat everyday, deserves all the praise. Don’t believe me? Ask all the people lined out the door every day since they reopened from the move.
