Foodie and Co. Turns One!

I truly cannot believe it has been a year since I “launched” Foodie and Co! I use the word “launch” very lightly- this isn’t a business or a platform, but a hobby and a love that I want to share with others. To me, food is everything. Food is at the center of nearly every good memory, and if not, it follows shortly after.

I can still taste the tangy meatloaf my Mamaw who has been gone nearly a decade made with those impossibly fluffy rolls, the cheesy enchiladas at my favorite childhood restaurant at the beach, and the watermelon my best friend and I let drip down our chins at 12 years old after a day soaking in sun and chlorine. I remember the pimento cheese burger I had right after getting engaged and the flavorful chicken we had at our reception. Hot dogs from the local fast-food joint for breakfast when I spent the night with Mamaw, and the pizza lunchable my Dad had to stop and buy me on his way home from the night shift for a 3rd grade field trip. If I think hard enough, I can evoke the smell of the church gym filled with long tables of food from cooks who could probably open a 5-Star restaurant, but instead worked to feed big families and even bigger church gatherings.

Talking with my husband just last night, I said I wished my blog and social medias looked “better”- more like those influencers who have perfectly curated feeds and thousands of likes. “But, what you post is real. You really cooked it for you and me to really eat, not just for show,” he told me. And he is right. Hungry eyes watch me patiently as I try to find good light in our tiny kitchen to snap a quick and decent photo before it gets cold. What I cook and post is real life- food and tips from someone’s actual kitchen and meals they are actually eating.

I love to cook. It brings me peace after a long day of work, and joy to see someone enjoy what I have made. If I never “make it big”, that’s okay with me. Just to share my love of food with another person is enough for me. And, hey, if you get a new favorite recipe out of it, even better.

I can’t wait to see what we cook up next!

Amanda
